How to choose the right size wall art for your space
Size matters when it comes to wall art!
Correctly sized framed art or canvas prints can act as an essential focal point for your space, while art that is too large or too small could make your room feel out of proportion. Read on for our tips and tricks on choosing the right size wall art for your space.
1. Go big or go home
As a rule of thumb, wall art should take up 65-75% of the available wall space (not including wall space covered by furniture). Artwork above large pieces of furniture like your bed, couch or fireplace should be at least 2/3 to 3/4 the width of the furniture. Before ordering art online, it’s good practice to measure out the dimensions of your prints against the wall to ensure a good fit.
2. The more the merrier
Don’t worry if you have small pieces and a large wall! You can still use smaller prints by combining multiple pieces of different sizes to create a gallery wall. Try combining prints with complementary colors, themes and styles to add some flair to your space. You can also try using different frame styles and matting options to add more interest to your gallery wall.
3. Seeing is believing
It can be tempting to hang wall art much higher than it needs to be in an effort to cover vertical space, especially if you have high ceilings. But for the most aesthetically pleasing position, you should aim to have the center of the print at eye-level. If you’re hanging art above furniture, make sure you leave a space of 15-30cm / 6-12 inches between the top of the furniture and your wall art.
